Empirica GmbH is a private research and consultancy firm supporting innovation with new information technology across a wide, international area of economic activity including: Digital Health Research & Innovation, eCare & the Ageing Society, eSkills & Work, Inclusive Society, Research & Innovation and Energy.

The meeting lasted two days, with a complete program of presentations, demos and workshops. Here are some highlights of the meeting.

Project coordinator Helios de Rosario presented the advance of the project since the Review Meeting in Luxembourg: Back-UP is in the final rush and results are coming.
Stefanie Jansen-Kosterink from Roessingh Research And Development (RRD - The Netherlands) showed the first results of the usability study made on the first version of the Professional Portal - the Antari HomeCare side of Back-UP.

Wendy d’Hollosy, also from RRD, presents the design of the vignette made for the retrospective study. There is a video made by RRD to present the study, which consists on 15 patient cases to be evaluated through a brief questionnaire. This questionnaire is available online in Dutch and English (http://www.vignetstudy.nl/). “It is open since October, and it aims to gather data during the following months, in order to have a report ready to be converted into a paper in Summer 2020” states Wendy, “and every medical or paramedical staff involved in Back-Up related items can participate”.

The session followed with the presentation of the advances on Machine Learning module, added after the amendment of the project.
Javier Téllez from GMV and Alejadro Lebrero from University of Leeds explained in a demo session how Antari HomeCare and Multi-X are connected; from now on, the graphical resources provided by Multi-X platform (customized charts, tables, etc) will be made available for the HomeCare final users.

In the second day, a session was dedicated to the Rehabilitation module: the potential users, the target and the main data that should be considered.
Jansen-Kosterink commented that “there should be less focus on pain, and more on quality of life, fear, self-efficacy, and function, which are the real targets of rehabilitation.”

The last part of the meeting was finally dedicated to the Economic Modelling, that will take into account different national realities and roles that stakeholders might play during the pain onset, rehabilitation and return to work, comparing care pathways and cost structures across eurpean countries.

Next consortium meeting will be in UK in June 2020. “There will be a short but thrilling way until the final meeting in Valencia on November”, concludes De Rosario.
